Member for Goyder Steven Griffiths MP has welcomed the pledge from Liberal Leader Steven Marshall MP to establish a Regional Roads and Infrastructure Fund (RRIF) by quarantining 30 per cent of mining royalty revenue.
“In my nearly 12 years representing the Goyder electorate I have continuously advocated for more investment in our roads and, sadly, have watched them deteriorate under an untenable backlog of neglected maintenance”, Mr. Griffiths said.
“The establishment of a regional roads fund with guaranteed funding will ensure regional roads remain a priority and focus for decision-makers in the years to come.
“The RRIF’s committed dollars will also provide important leverage for additional Commonwealth partnership funding.”
Mr. Griffiths said roads and health remain the two topic areas of constituent concern, and that there is anger across communities about the lack of investment and regard for regional South Australia on both issues.
“I’ve heard first-hand all the near misses on dangerous sections of our roads, from tourists, locals, farmers driving machinery, and truck drivers.
“I’ve also heard first-hand accounts of what it is like to travel in the back of an ambulance across our deteriorating road network.
“Increased infrastructure investment is long overdue”.
