Recharging Our Regions

I welcome the release today by State Liberal Leader Steven Marshall of "Recharging Our Regions", a billion dollar package to create regional jobs and drive regional investment.

A Marshall Liberal Government will deliver "Recharging Our Regions" to create regional jobs, increase investment in regional infrastructure, drive down the cost of living and improve frontline services.

Key components of "Recharging Our Regions" include:

  • $150 million Regional Growth Fund
  • $750 million Royalties for Regions program
  • $360 million cut to the ESL
  • Liberal Energy Solution which will reduce household and business electricity bills
  • Improvements to frontline services

"For 16 long years this city-centric Weatherill Labor Government has neglected our regions and we've seen a decline in some regional populations as our young people continue to leave in droves because of the lack of opportunities," said State Liberal Leader Steven Marshall.

"That's why we have announced "Recharging Our Regions", to reinvigorate our regions which are so important to the future prosperity of our state and make sure they get their fair share.

"We will drive investment in our regions through our $150  million fund to create regional jobs and our $750  million fund to invest in regional road and infrastructure.

"We will also ease the cost of living by cutting ESL bills by $360 million, cut the average household power bill by $302 once our Liberal Energy Solution is fully implemented and cap council rate and NRM levy increases.

"Recharging Our Regions will also deliver better country health, education and other frontline services".

Liberal Candidate for Narungga Fraser Ellis also believes that "Recharging Our Regions" would deliver real outcomes and benefit the broader Yorke Peninsula community.

"Recharging Our Regions will  help support local projects that will create local jobs on Yorke Peninsula and deliver much needed investment," said Liberal Candidate for Narungga Fraser Ellis.

"There are a number of industries on Yorke Peninsula that will benefit from different elements of our Recharging Our Regions package, such as our primary industries, transport and logistics and tourism and acommodation sectors.

"The community are very concerned about  the condition of a number of boat ramps and facilities, the state of our roads and the provision of health services in the region.

"As the local candidate I have already been able to secure a commitment to reinstate surgical services at the Yorketown Hospital which will mean residents on the southern peninsula won't have to travel hundreds of kilometres for these health services.

"A future Marshall Liberal Government is also committed to reversing Labor's recent speed limit cuts on eight country roads and will review all regional speed limits.

"The road network on Yorke Peninsula supports many of our industries, from grain to tourism, and is used by thousands of locals every day.

"That's why we have also announced our Royalties for Regions program to quarantine 30 per cent of mining royalties to invest back into regional road and other infrastructure.

"We don't accept the Labor Government's approach of slashing speed limits instead of investing and upgrading our regional roads.

"The feedback I've been getting from the local Yorke Peinsula community is that the region has been neglected by this 16 year-old Labor Government and they desperately need a change of government. "
