Applications are open for the 2017 Youth Parliament program delivered by the YMCA SA and sponsored by the State Government.
Now in its 22nd year, Youth Parliament has educated more than 1,000 young people about parliamentary process.
Scholarships are available for regional participants to cover all travel costs, to and from Adelaide, both for training in May and for a residential week in July.
Bills are passed by Youth Parliament which are then formally presented to the Minister for Youth for the Government's consideration, giving participating young people the opportunity to voice their opinions on many different issues.
In 2015, the introduction of scholarships to support regional participation dramatically increased the number of regional participants in the program, doubling their representation compared with previous years.
In 2016, 21 of the 71 participants came from many regions across South Australia, including the 2016 Youth Governor, Ms Elysse Dimitriadis from Mundulla, and others from Kangaroo Island to Port Lincoln, and from Loxton to Mount Gambier.
Applications for the 2017 Youth Parliament close on Sunday, 12 March 2017.
